Meet one of our Promise Babies: Wesley!

Wesley Tillmon, son of Morgan and Josh Smith of Akron, SD, was born 5:39 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, in his home, weighing 7 pounds and measuring 21 inches. He has two siblings, Leighton, 3, and Walker, 1.

Certified nurse midwife Pam Hulstein of Promise Community Health Center in Sioux Center, IA, provided the prenatal care for the family throughout the pregnancy and attended the home birth.

This was Morgan's first experience working with a midwife and having home birth.

"The care of the midwife is completely different," she said. "It feels a lot more personal and gentle in the way care is provided. It felt very comfortable to ask as many questions as I wanted to. I didn't feel rushed. I felt listened to. I felt I had options to choose from. The home birth felt very comfortable and natural. Everything was at our pace instead of someone else's. The care in our home was amazing."

Morgan and Josh Smith, along with their older children,
Walker, 1, and Leighton, 3, welcomed baby Wesley into
their family on Friday, Jan. 13. He was born in their
home in Akron, SD, with the assistance of midwife
Pam Hulstein of Promise Community Health Center.
