Bentley James, son of Fonda and Lance Van Middendorp of Hull, IA, was born 3 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, in his home, weighing 8 pounds, 10 ounces, and measuring 22 inches. He is the first child in the family.
Certified nurse midwife Belinda Lassen of Promise Community Health Center in Sioux Center, IA, provided the prenatal care for the family throughout the pregnancy and attended the home birth.
Fonda was pleased with the home-birth experience.
"It was all really good," she said. "I loved being at home, and I wasn't pressured to do anything. Everything went the way I pictured it to go."
