Meet one of our Promise Babies: Ann!


Ann, daughter of Aaron and Kara Bouma of Le Mars, IA, was born 8:35 p.m. Friday, May 26, in her home, weighing 8 pounds and measuring 20 1/2 inches. She has three older siblings, Paxton, 6; Sam, 4; and Camden.

Certified nurse midwife Pam Hulstein of Promise Community Health Center in Sioux Center, IA, provided the prenatal care for the family throughout the pregnancy and attended the home birth.

Meet one of our Promise Babies: Jennifer!


Jennifer Marie, daughter of Jon and Mylidiah of Ireton, IA, was born 5:43 p.m. Saturday, April 22, in her home, weighing 7 pounds, 6 ounces, and measuring 21 inches. She is the family's first child.

Certified nurse midwife Belinda Lassen of Promise Community Health Center in Sioux Center, IA, provided the prenatal care for the family throughout the pregnancy and attended the home birth. Nurse Kari Ney also assisted.


They said it was "a great experience."

"We felt very comfortable in our home during labor and birth with Belinda and Kari by our side. We would be happy to do it again."

Meet one of our Promise Babies: Nora!


Nora Marie, daughter of Brooke and Conor Bertling of Le Mars, SD, was born 4:05 a.m. Thursday, April 20, in her home, weighing 6 pounds, 15 ounces, and measuring 20 1/2 inches. She is the family's first child.

Certified nurse midwife Pam Hulstein of Promise Community Health Center in Sioux Center, IA, provided the prenatal care for the family throughout the pregnancy and attended the home birth.


Brook said it was an all-around good experience.

"We went into this experience thinking we were interested in a home birth," she said. "After all of our meetings with our midwife and the experiences we've had with Promise, we are very pleased with our decision. We had great confidence in our midwife and nurse to deliver our baby safely and naturally. We have no regrets and would recommend a home-birth experience to other parents."

Meet one of our Promise Babies: Rosalind!


Rosalind Jean, daughter of Nathan and Kirbee Nykamp of Sioux Center, IA, was born 12:44 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, at Orange City Area Health System, weighing 7 pounds, 10 ounces, and measuring 21 inches. She had to siblings, Ella, 6, and Oliver, 4.

Certified nurse midwife Belinda Lassen of Promise Community Health Center in Sioux Center, IA, provided the prenatal care for the family throughout the pregnancy.


The family enjoyed their first experience working with a midwife.

"I really loved how much time we could spend asking questions at all of the appointments," Kirbee said. "There was a lot more time given for whatever was on my mind."

Meet one of our Promise Babies: Bentley!


Bentley James, son of Fonda and Lance Van Middendorp of Hull, IA, was born 3 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, in his home, weighing 8 pounds, 10 ounces, and measuring 22 inches. He is the first child in the family.

Certified nurse midwife Belinda Lassen of Promise Community Health Center in Sioux Center, IA, provided the prenatal care for the family throughout the pregnancy and attended the home birth.


Fonda was pleased with the home-birth experience.

"It was all really good," she said. "I loved being at home, and I wasn't pressured to do anything. Everything went the way I pictured it to go."

Meet one of our Promise Babies: Winston!

Winston Scott, son of Brian and Jody Greyn of Hull, IA, was born 10:59 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, at Sioux Center Health, weighing 8 pounds, 15 ounces, and measuring 22 inches. He has six siblings, Ariana, 13; Samantha, 12; Spencer, 10; Isaac, 8; Alyvia, 6; and Josiah, 3.

Certified nurse midwife Belinda Lassen of Promise Community Health Center in Sioux Center, IA, provided the prenatal care for the family.


Belinda has provided prenatal care for all but one of the family's children.

"I just like the personal care," Jody said. "It's very familiar. It's a relaxed setting."

Meet one of our Promise Babies: Jalissa!


Jalissa Promise, daughter of Luke and Lori Decker of rural Canton, SD, was born 9:14 a.m. Friday, Jan. 20, in her home, weighing 8 pounds, 6 ounces, and measuring 21 1/2 inches. She has four siblings, Marcus, 7; Jared, 6; Lauren, 4; and Amara, 2.

Certified nurse midwife Pam Hulstein of Promise Community Health Center in Sioux Center, IA, provided the prenatal care for the family throughout the pregnancy and attended the home birth.


Lori has experienced home births with her other children, but this was her first time receiving care from a Promise midwife.

"We loved working with Pam and the people at Promise," she said. "Thank you."
