Bentley James, son of Fonda and Lance Van Middendorp of Hull, IA, was born 3 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, in his home, weighing 8 pounds, 10 ounces, and measuring 22 inches. He is the first child in the family.
Certified nurse midwife Belinda Lassen of Promise Community Health Center in Sioux Center, IA, provided the prenatal care for the family throughout the pregnancy and attended the home birth.
Fonda was pleased with the home-birth experience.
"It was all really good," she said. "I loved being at home, and I wasn't pressured to do anything. Everything went the way I pictured it to go."
Fonda Van Middendorp holds her baby, Bentley. She and her husband, Lance, welcomed baby Bentley into their family on Tuesday, Feb. 14. He was born in their home in Hull with the assistance of midwife Belinda Lassen of Promise Community Health Center of Sioux Center.
