Meet one of our Promise Babies: Lydia!


Lydia Joy, daughter of Caleb and Emily Widman of Sergeant Bluff, IA, was born 1:12 a.m. Friday, Aug. 4, in her home, weighing 8 pounds, 8 ounces, and measuring 21 inches. She has three older sisters, Esther, 7, Rebekah, 5, and Hannah, 2.

Certified nurse midwife Belinda Lassen of Promise Community Health Center in Sioux Center, IA, provided the prenatal care for the family throughout the pregnancy and attended the home birth.

Meet one of our Promise Babies: Juniper!


Juniper Grace, daughter of Steve and Emily Mahr of Orange City, IA, was born 7:07 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, in her home, weighing 8 pounds, 6 ounces, and measuring 21.5 inches. She has three siblings, Margo, 7, Xander, 4, and Phoebe, 2.

Certified nurse midwife Belinda Lassen of Promise Community Health Center in Sioux Center, IA, provided the prenatal care for the family throughout the pregnancy and attended the home birth. Nurse Kari Ney assisted with the home birth.


"We loved it!" Steve said. "Belinda and Kari help create a stable, peaceful environment. Having our babies at home has been such a wonderful, intimate, relaxing experience for our family."

Meet one of our Promise Babies: Luna!


Luna, daughter of Corey and Macauley of Salix, IA, was born 12:01 a.m. Thursday, July 6, in her home, weighing 8 pounds and measuring 21 inches. She has an older sister, Rosalie, 3.

Certified nurse midwife Pam Hulstein of Promise Community Health Center in Sioux Center, IA, provided the prenatal care for the family throughout the pregnancy and attended the home birth.


It was the family's first home-birth experience.

"The freedom that comes with a home birth is liberating and empowering," Macauley said. "I would choose Pam and home birth for all future pregnancies."

Elektra, daughter of James and Holly of Beresford, SD, was born 8:34 a.m. Thursday, July 6, in her home, weighing 8 pounds, 8 ounces, and measuring 22 inches. She has an older sister, Andromeda.

Jennifer Marie, daughter of Jon and Mylidiah of Ireton, IA, was born 5:43 p.m. Saturday, April 22, in her home, weighing 7 pounds, 6 ounces, and measuring 21 inches. She is the family's first child.

Certified nurse midwife Belinda Lassen of Promise Community Health Center in Sioux Center, IA, provided the prenatal care for the family throughout the pregnancy and attended the home birth. Nurse Kari Ney also assisted.


They said it was "a great experience."

"We felt very comfortable in our home during labor and birth with Belinda and Kari by our side. We would be happy to do it again."

Meet one of our Promise Babies: Nora!


Nora Marie, daughter of Brooke and Conor Bertling of Le Mars, SD, was born 4:05 a.m. Thursday, April 20, in her home, weighing 6 pounds, 15 ounces, and measuring 20 1/2 inches. She is the family's first child.

Certified nurse midwife Pam Hulstein of Promise Community Health Center in Sioux Center, IA, provided the prenatal care for the family throughout the pregnancy and attended the home birth.


Brook said it was an all-around good experience.

"We went into this experience thinking we were interested in a home birth," she said. "After all of our meetings with our midwife and the experiences we've had with Promise, we are very pleased with our decision. We had great confidence in our midwife and nurse to deliver our baby safely and naturally. We have no regrets and would recommend a home-birth experience to other parents."
