Meet the latest Promise Baby: Jewel!
Jewel Adel, daughter of Jimmy and Julie Bendlin of Gillett Grove, IA, was born Thursday, Feb. 18, in her home, weighing 8 pounds and measuring 21 inches. She has two brothers, Jevin, 6, and Jagger, 1.
The family received prenatal care from Promise Community Health Center in Sioux Center. Certified nurse midwife Pam Hulstein assisted with the home birth.
This was Julie's first home birth experience. She chose that route because she could have her baby how she wanted to. She didn't feel like she had that freedom in a hospital setting.
The birth went great, she said.
"We liked being at home and having the boys part of it," Julie said. "It was relaxing and peaceful."
